Under pandemic and upheaval, artists continue to negotiate how they each relate to the digital and ever-changing realities around us. New considerations of audience and access are shaping the way art is made and viewed. Performers have been challenged to adapt to a mostly-digital reality as many venues and gatherings became unsafe. In the last year, we’ve seen artists use many digital platforms to create and share their work, as well as to fundraise and community-build.

This spring marks a year since the first lockdowns in the US and we’re at another turning point as vaccines are distributed. There have been great losses -- half a million in the United States, and counting -- and existing inequities have been deepened. As we enter another phase of the pandemic, what will be required of us? What will we need or look for in art and artists? Grief? Hope? Reflection? And, of the digital realm, what has come from our adaptations and expectations? What possibilities exist in the glitching and interrupting demands for streamed and streamlined content? What does it look like to lean into the shifting, liquid realities? Where do we stand between lines of code, lines of poetry, and lines for vaccination? Within this broad set of questions, we, independent curators danilo machado and Claire Kim, invite artists to develop and present new work.
